Job Summary

 

Lawson Health Research Institute (Lawson) is the research institute of London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. As one of Canada’s top ten research institutes, we are committed to furthering scientific knowledge to advance health care around the world.

The Research assistant will apply their expertise and knowledge in the areas of health care research and / or clinical epidemiology to contribute to the research projects in NPM division through the coordination of accurate and efficient research activities, under the direction of the Principal Investigator.

Rate of Pay:                    To commensurate with experience

Hours of Work:               20/week

Duration:                         1 year, contract may be renewable

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Recruit and engage study participants, neonates and their substitute decision makers and will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, clinician trainees (residents and fellows), allied health care staff (Respiratory Therapists) patient partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Conduct study assessment protocols, using specific research study equipment and other study protocol tools, to perform assessments which support the research activities, in adherence with ethics protocols and guidelines.
  • Contribute information to assist with evaluation and interpreting of experimental results, assist in preparation of reports and other written material for presentations and/or submissions to various stakeholders; maintain databases and communicate with ethics personnel to maintain and update research documents.
  • handle the day-to-day research duties required for the operation of the laboratory and will act as a liaison between the research teams and study participants
  • Participate in processes involved in obtaining and maintaining regulatory approvals including ethics approval
  • Participate in processes involved in obtaining various grants in support of academic endeavors.

Qualifications

 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology Biostatics/ HealthCare Sciences/Healthcare Technology, Biomedical Sciences/ Medical Sciences or related fields.
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in Health Science/ Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics
  • Minimum Required:  3 years’ experience in qualitative and quantitative research administration
  • Preferred:  Knowledge of running clinical trials, grant application preparation, manuscript preparation.
  • Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with clients, peers and external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
  • Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy
  • A strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Advanced computer skills including document preparation, presentations, and database management
  • Ability to assimilate new information quickly
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain and organize an effective personal work environment
  • Creative problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment, especially regarding confidential/sensitive matters
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
