The Senior Contracts Consultant functions in a lead role providing Contract Management subject matter expertise across the organization. The role involves independently reviewing and drafting contracts and other agreements as may be required by the organization, as well as developing contract templates or other waivers/release of liability.

The Senior Contracts Consultant is expected to participate in contract negotiations (negotiating provisions if required) for complex or high-risk contracts or agreements, considering factors like risk exposure and risk impact to safeguard the organization.

The role involves evaluating risks associated with contracts and other agreements, identifying potential pitfalls and vulnerabilities and developing strategies to mitigate these risks (legal, financial, operational, reputational).

How you will contribute:

  • Serve as an expert resource for all levels of hospital staff, administration, and third party procurement services and interprets and explains contract terms and conditions.
  • Educate staff and leaders on contract management risk-related issues and/or changes in legislation that will affect the way LHSC functions and delivers care
  • Provide expert advice to provide analysis of risk based on consultant reviews and formulation of mitigation strategies (complex contracts) to ensure contract provisions are appropriate for the risk exposure identified, this includes but is not limited to ensuring insurance requirements and indemnity provisions are adequate
  • Seek insurer´s review and opinion when an increased likelihood of exposure is identified in an agreement to confirm wording is adequate and coverage is afforded under hospital’s insurance policy
  • Review and oversee/manage high-risk corporate contracts (e.g. operational, reputational, clinical, or financial risk)
  • Oversee the development of customized waivers for LHSC from standard templates, releasing the organization, its officers, directors, staff, affiliates and/or volunteers from potential liability

Qualifications

 

As the ideal candidate, you have:

  • Successful completion of Bachelor’s degree in Health/Business Administration or equivalent
  • Certificate in Contract Management or Alternate Dispute Resolution - Preferred
  • Paralegal diploma and/or Certified Information privacy Professional-Canada - Preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of recent, related experience
  • Advanced knowledge of acts and regulations including laws that apply to Health Care
  • Advanced knowledge of Risk Management (risk assessment, loss prevention, insurance)
  • Proficient consensus building, conflict resolution, presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong contract drafting skills with a technically competent and practice approach
  • Experience with negotiating research related contracts with demonstrated skills in negotiation, facilitation, coaching, and conflict resolution
  • Exemplary communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Excellent analytical, assessment and evaluation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and changing demands
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and data management software
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Vision, Purpose and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
