Lawson Health Research Institute (Lawson) is one of Canada’s top ten health research institutes, and serves as the research institute of London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and St. Joseph’s Health Care London (St. Joseph’s). Lawson is ranked eighth in the country according to the 2020 edition of “Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals List” by Research Infosource. This strong position has been maintained by Lawson for the past seven years and keeps the institute within the top five for Ontario.  The top 40 list analyzes hospital-based research institutes from across the country on several metrics, including total research income from the previous fiscal year. The ranking looks at funds received from all sources, including both internal and external, to support research at the organization.  Lawson also holds top ranking for research intensity among the large tier institutions measured by research spending per researcher.

 

Job Summary

 

Lawson's Contracts team is responsible for the drafting, review, negotiation, approval and processing of research related contracts for institute research. Reporting to the Manager, Research Approval & Contracts, the Contracts Associate is responsible to draft, review, negotiate, approve and process research related contracts including confidential disclosure agreements, data sharing and material transfer agreements and amendments for Lawson Heath Research Institute and will engage and collaborate with appropriate stakeholders, manage institutional risk and provide effective and efficient service and support to researchers outside parties.

 The Contracts Associate is also the back up to the Team Administrative Partner providing coverage of administrative support to the research Contract team at Lawson as needed.  This would include intakes, logs and triages all contracts referred to the Contract team at Lawson, including advising researchers of contract assignment and expected time frame for review, supports and reports on contract time lines and managing of the Contracts Triage inbox. 

 

Rate of Pay:                    To commensurate with experience

Hours of Work:               37.5 hours per week

Duration:                         12 months (1 year)

Qualifications

 
  • Diploma or Certificate in Law, Legal Assistant, Paralegal, Legal Clerk, or equivalent related education preferred
  • Minimum two (2) years recent related experience in a similar role; preferably in a research environment
  • Proficient with computer skills including all Microsoft Office applications and databases
  • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated attention detail and accuracy
  • Ability to effectively prioritize fluctuating workload demands in a busy environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy in work
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:  
 Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to: 

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;  
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);  
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
