OTA University Hospital

The Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist Assistant (PTA), under the direction of the Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, conducts therapeutic programs with patients to facilitate meeting defined treatment goals and completes tasks necessary for the maintenance of a safe and efficient treatment environment at University Hospital. The OTA/PTA reports to the Manager, Health Disciplines

Regular Part -Time

Rate of Pay:          $29.87 per hour - $31.61 per hour

Hours:                   up to 22.50 hours per week

Who We Are

 
  • Occupational Therapist Assistant Diploma or Certificate or OTA/PTA Diploma or Certificate equivalent acceptable to the Hospital
  • Recent, relevant, direct physiotherapy patient treatment experience including:
    • Supervision of patients using physiotherapy equipment
    • Performing patient transfers, gait training, and functional mobility training
    • Performing strengthening, range of motion, balance and coordination programs
    • Monitoring patient response to treatment and appropriate reporting
  • Previous Physiotherapist Assistant experience in an acute care setting preferably with medical and surgical patient populations
  • Demonstrated health and physical condition consistent with lifting, bending, transferring patients and long periods of standing, walking, stair climbing, exposure of hands to hot and cold temperatures
  • Ability to supervise and educate Physiotherapist Assistant students
  • Demonstrated ability to work and interact effectively in a collaborative, interprofessional team setting
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly with patients and staff including motivating others
  • Initiative, enthusiasm and effective time management skills to perform assigned duties and manage time efficiently without constant direct supervision
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and demonstrated sound judgment
  • Demonstrated commitment to self-directed learning
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
