South West Regional Cancer Program

In collaboration with Ontario Health, Cancer Care Ontario (OH-CCO), the Patient Educator utilizes evidence and best practices to develop and implement comprehensive patient education strategies for the cancer system in the South West region. The Patient Educator plans, develops, implements and evaluates patient education strategies. The Patient Educator also supports the development of patient education, knowledge, and skills for professional staff. 

Temporary Full-Time

Duration: Up to 14 months

Hours of Work:    37.5 hours/week

Rate of Pay:   $41.12 per hour - $51.39 per hour

 

Qualifications

 

As the ideal candidate, you have:

  • Successful completion of Bachelor's Degree in Adult Education or Health Sciences required
  • Master's degree in Adult Education or Health Sciences preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent, relevant experience
  • Knowledge of principles of adult learning to develop effective patient education strategies, programs and resources
  • Advanced project management skills
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to apply appropriate evaluation methods to assess strategies
  • Proficient research utilization skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including facilitation and presentation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence change
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent conflict management skills
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Proficient Microsoft Office suite skills
  • Knowledge of and experience working in Ontario’s health care system preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience using principles of health literacy and person-centred care preferred
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Vision, Purpose, and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to: 

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;  
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);  
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
