As Director, Health, Safety & Environment, your responsibilities will include developing and executing a proactive, enterprise-wide HSE strategy that supports sustainable growth and a strong safety culture. You’ll lead a team of HSE professionals, align policies and training across sites, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements while driving innovation in environmental sustainability.
More about your responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Alignment: Lead, mentor, and support a team of HSE professionals across multiple sites, fostering collaboration and aligning processes, training, and policies, enterprise wide.
- HSE Strategy & Programmes: Design and implement scalable health, safety, and environmental programmes that reduce risk, improve performance, and workplace safety culture.
- Compliance & Standards: Maintain and evolve HSE policies and procedures in line with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
- Wellness & Safety Culture: Partner with Human Resources to develop wellness initiatives and support Joint Health & Safety Committees in promoting a safe, inclusive workplace.
- Risk & Incident Management: Ensure optimal processes and procedures are in place for risk assessment, investigations, and proactive management of WSIB claims.
- Sustainability Leadership: Drive the execution of the Corporate Environmental Sustainability Plan, including waste reduction, emissions control, and energy management.
- Environmental Compliance: Manage all environmental regulatory programmes and certifications (ISO 14001, ISO 50001, FSC/SFI), including hazardous waste and recycling systems.
- Training & Reporting: Develop comprehensive training matrices, and ensure accurate tracking and reporting of sustainability metrics and KPIs.
What you’ll bring
- University degree or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification in HSE or related continuous learning credentials (e.g. CRSP).
- 10+ years of experience in an HSE role, with at least five years at the leadership level within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven success managing multi-site HSE programmes in a growth-focused, production setting.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OHSA, and environmental legislation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
