The Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery is dedicated to excellence in the treatment of disease of the head and neck, and in furthering our knowledge in this area. LHSC Otolaryngology is a national leader in clinical research and in pioneering new surgical techniques. This research position will involve head and neck cancer survivorship research with our dynamic team of head and surgeons, researchers, survivorship care team and our nurse practitioner. The research will primarily involve recruiting head and neck cancer patients from the survivorship clinic into the SHARE clinical trial. Where required, the successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting patients to participate in population and database studies, quality of life studies, and quality improvement.
The successful candidate will work under the direction of Dr. Danielle MacNeil in the role of the Research Assistant II in the Head and Neck Oncology Division and Head and Neck Survivorship Clinic at the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre. The purpose of this position is to support the research team in the conduct of clinical research for head and neck cancer patients, in particular research related to survivorship care. Responsibilities may include recruitment of study participants, scheduling visits, conducting study participant interviews and/or assessments, data entry and analysis, literature review, assisting with project planning and start up activities, gathering information and documents for the research project, performing basic statistical analysis, and ensuring appropriate follow up with research participants and project team members. This role will liaise with patients, research and clinical staff and external stakeholders in the conduct of research studies while ensuring compliance with the research study protocols, research policies and regulatory requirements. This role will contribute directly to producing valuable research and enhancing the quality of life for survivors of head and neck cancer.
Temporary Full Time
Rate of Pay: $27.43 - $34.28
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week
Duration: 1 Year renewable Contract - subject to availability of work

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science
- 1-3 years of experience working in a clinical research setting
- Proficiency in clinical research methodologies and practices
- Experience in coordinating and implementing research project activities efficiently
- Experience with enrolling patients, obtaining informed consent, and ensuring adherence to study protocols and ethics guidelines
- Ability to engage respectfully with patients and their families, and collaborate with research teams and stakeholders
- Familiarity with research databases and data curation/cleaning methods
- Proficiency in using REDCap for data management
- In-depth understanding of local REB applications, and familiarity with relevant regulations (e.g., ICH GCP, Health Canada, FDA, TCPS2, PIPEDA, PHIPA)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey scientific information and research findings
- Competence in handling medical terminology and specialized knowledge in areas such as head and neck cancer and rare diseases
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, tact, and professional attitude
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
