The Nutrition Technician (Infant) will safely and accurately prepare and deliver the feeds for preterm and/or term infants in the NICU, using a controlled environment that limits the potential for cross contamination of fortifiers, powdered formulas and mixing equipment. Working independently preparing feeds and communicating with NICU team members, ensuring an integrated patient and family centred care approach.

Qualifications

 

As the ideal candidate, you have:

  • Successful completion of a  College Diploma in a CSNM (Canadian Society of Nutrition Management) accredited program in Food Services Administration and Technology 
  • Member of Canadian Society of Nutrition Management preferred
  • Experience with Neonatal/Paediatric patient population preferred 1 year
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of aseptic technique in the preparation of feeds
  • Working knowledge of neonatal nutrition, therapeutic diets and additives/formulas preferred
  • Proficiency with computerized diet order entry systems preferred
  • Experience with inventory control for the milk preparation and stock preferred
  • Proficient math skills to convert EPR infant formula order to preparation recipe
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work
  • Proficient knowledge in safe food handling guidelines, inventory management and control
  • Demonstrated proficient knowledge of specific guidelines for preparation, handling and storage of breast milk
  • Proficient computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel)
  • Proficient knowledge of the Women & Infants system and associated printers
  • Demonstrated proficient math skills to convert EPR infant formula order to preparation recipe
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, highly organized, flexible and balance competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a work team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Vision, Purpose and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
