The Regional Education Consultant is a professional role model and resource person with responsibilities in leading initiatives within the Southwest Centre for Prehospital Medicine's (SWCPM) Integrated Program portfolio through supporting the development of policies, procedures and educational content that promote evidence-based practice utilizing adult learning principles. The Consultant is accountable for developing, facilitating, implementing, and evaluating professional educational opportunities for regional paramedics and other prehospital first responders (e.g. training for a broad range of practice competencies and medical directives). In addition, the Consultant will develop, support, implement and evaluate quality assurance for the SWCPM's integrated program work and improvement initiatives based on both regional and provincial direction/requests.
Within the Base Hospital Program, the Regional Education Consultant is an informal leader taking responsibility for the organization, implementation, and representation of the program amongst provincial peers. The Consultant is responsible for certification events for both the program and for students seeking certification to complete medically controlled acts during their preceptorship. The Consultant is the primary contact and liaison for our contracted customers and represents the program's core values when collaborating and engaging with them. The Consultant monitors, maintains, and approves all submissions related to continuing medical education that is requested by paramedics in the southwest region. The Consultant represents the program amongst the Ontario Base Hospital Group and leads the provincial development of curriculum for mandatory continuing medical education deployment
Temporary Full Time
- Rate of Pay: $52.16 per hour - $65.20 per hour
- Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week
- Contract expected to go until January 29, 2027

Successful candidates will be required to perform work within Ontario and must be available to work on location, as required.
How you'll contribute:
- Supports and facilitates the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-informed prehospital care practice, medical directives, clinical procedures and protocols
- Following program policies and processes, reviews patient charts to determine compliance with provincial treatment guidelines. Compiles evidence and materials relevant to successful investigation, (working with various internal and external stakeholders), including requesting feedback from prehospital care providers and develops remediation pathways in conjunction with the Medical Director; Monitors health care trends and incorporates these into educational activities (e.g. Legislative changes, Patient Care Standards)
- Identifies issues relating to quality patient care, utilizing environmental scans, interviews, surveys, chart audits and available data
- Collaborates with regional and provincial partners to develop education materials
- Liaises with external stakeholders, other educators and resource persons to share expertise and maximize resources, providing a linkage with a regional and provincial network of providers
- Develops relationships with stakeholders under the Integrated Program portfolio and works with them to develop plans for training of their staff and other logistics related to the program?s mandate
- Consults on, develops, facilitates and revises training resources (e.g., individualized education plans, reading materials, learning packages, online learning, Train-the-Trainer workshops) for practice competencies for specific prehospital provider programs
- Plans and prepares for teaching of new skills, technology and medications, and implements educational sessions related to evidence-based practice
- Provides professional development opportunities for prehospital care providers in collaboration with leadership at regional and provincial programs (i.e. organizes regional conferences, workshops)
- Participates in the development and implementation of provincial practice change as well as evaluation through tracking of metrics and reporting on trends and changes
- Assumes responsibility for the maintenance and ongoing development of own clinical knowledge and expertise and maintains up to date knowledge of professional issues and trends
- Continues to develop effective clinical teaching and leadership skills
- Attends conferences, workshops and educational programs to ensure up-to-date knowledge of professional issues and trends, clinical knowledge and expertise
- Participates in regional, provincial and national collaborations

Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Bachelor's or diploma in a health-related discipline (Paramedicine, Nursing) or as acceptable to the Hospital
- Master's Degree in a health-related discipline, Adult Education or as acceptable to the Hospital preferred
- Regulated Health Professional, registered with relevant college
- Successful completion of BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
- Successful completion of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
- Training in adult education preferred
- Current membership in professional specialty organization preferred
- Minimum five (5) years recent, related experience in an acute care setting
- Ability to travel within the Ontario Health West Region.
- AEMCA (Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant) preferred
- A valid Ontario driver's license (G Class), use of a vehicle, and current vehicle insurance coverage
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required
- Expertise in clinical teaching and application of adult learning principles
- Advanced knowledge of and experience with professional practice and program development tools
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, teambuilding and conflict management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to network effectively with other disciplines
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize fluctuating workload demands
- Advanced ability to assess clinical competency and facilitate development of learning plan
- Expertise in critical thinking and clinical problem solving
- Proficient Microsoft Office Skills as well as online literature searches
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC

- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
