Pathology and Laboratory Medicine/Molecular Diagnostics
The Biochemical Genetics Geneticist is a key member of the Laboratory Medicine department, responsible for overseeing clinical Biochemical Genetics laboratory services and ensuring high-quality diagnostic testing and reporting through a total quality management system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Consultation & Interpretation: Provides expert guidance on test selection, result interpretation, and clinical correlation to healthcare providers.
- Test Development & Implementation: Leads the development, validation, and implementation of biochemical genetic assays to enhance diagnostic accuracy, safety, and patient care.
- Regulatory Compliance & Operations: Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards while optimizing laboratory operations and resource utilization.
- Research & Innovation: Conducts clinical and translational research, advancing genetic diagnostics and supporting clinical trials.
- Education & Mentorship: Engages in teaching and mentorship for medical laboratory staff, trainees, medical students, residents, and fellows.
This role plays a critical part in advancing Biochemical genetic diagnostics while maintaining excellence in patient care and laboratory operations.
Regular Full-Time
Rate of Pay: $79.26 per hour to $105.68 per hour
Hours of Work: 37.50 hours per week
Qualifications
- PhD in Human Genetics or Genomics preferred
- Fellow of the Canadian College of Medical Genetics (CCMG) or American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMGG) in Biochemical Genetics Laboratory is required. Specializations in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, Clinical Molecular Genetics, Clinical Cytogenetics Clinical are an asset but are not required; Academic affiliation is required.
- 2 Years of previous related experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill related to laboratory screening and diagnosis of pediatric disease
- Advanced research & development skills
- Advanced methods development knowledge in the biochemical laboratory with preference to LC/MS/MS method development knowledge.
- Ethical Awareness
- Advanced understanding of clinical test utilization
- Proficient computer skills
- Proficient statistical analysis skills
- Advanced critical thinking skills
- Advanced knowledge of one of the Clinical Laboratory Genomics Specialties including Clinical Biochemical Genetics, Cytogenetics, Molecular Genetics, or Clinical Genetics and Genomics preferred
- Advanced research & development skills
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose and Values
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
