Department of Surgery - Trauma Program
Reporting to the Clinical Leader/Manager and under the direction and supervision of a registered Physician and in accordance with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario's policy on delegation, the Physician Assistant (PA) provides medical care to patients based on instituted medical directives. This includes selected assessment, treatment and disposition functions.
The PA will be based at the Victoria Hospital Site with the Trauma Program. The Trauma Program provides care to multisystem trauma patients who have sustained injury from across Southwestern Ontario. The PA will function as a vital part of our collaborative team of health care workers in a physician-extender role. Their role will include, but may not be limited to: evaluation and initial management of injured patients in the Emergency Department alongside the trauma team; day-to-day inpatient care; outpatient clinic assessments and follow-up visits; on call coverage of the trauma inpatient service; and contributions to ongoing quality improvement initiatives within the program. With the trauma program's focus on education and training, this PA role provides the opportunity for a motivated individual to develop their potential as a leader and teacher both locally and within our region. There is also potential for involvement in many of the research projects that are ongoing within the program.
Regular Full-Time
Rate of Pay: $44.33 - $55.41 per hour
Hours per Week: 37.5 hours
Qualifications
- Four (4) year Undergraduate Degree in Health Sciences (Physician Assistant) and completion of 2 year Physician Assistant program (2023 Graduate of the McMaster or Consortium Physician Assistant Program)
- Current membership through the Physician Assistant’s Certification Council (PACC)
- Current BLS for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification for which you can provide proof upon request
- Advanced ability to perform in stressful and critical/emergency situations
- Advanced flexibility and ability to adapt to change
- Strong critical thinking, decision-making skills, and analytical and conceptual skills
- Advanced organizational skills
- Advanced communication skills (both verbal and written) and facilitation/presentation skills
- Ability to use Microsoft and Windows based technologies
- Demonstrated ability to provide principals of patient family centred care
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s vision, purpose and values
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
