VH IP General Surgery

Reporting to the Coordinator, the Registered Practical Nurse supports patient centered care in the General Surgery inpatient unit within the Surgical Clinical Business Unit. The Registered Practical Nurse provides care for patients receiving emergent and elective surgical treatment for cancers of bowel, pancreas, thyroid and adrenal gland.   Treatment and management of fistulas, hepato-biliary disease and bowel obstructive disorders is also provided.

Regular Full Time

Rate of Pay:        $37.10 per hour - $37.77 per hour

Qualifications

 
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course:  BLS-HCP(C)
  • Successful Completion of a Pharmacology course
  • Minimum one year surgical care nursing experience
  • Demonstrated competency in PCA/Epidural management, venipuncture and I.V. starts, preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Automated Clinical Systems, knowledge of Cerner or an electronic health record, preferred
  • Demonstrated excellent assessment and technical skills, and proven problem solving and decision making ability
  • Demonstrated ability to practice at full scope of practice
  • Demonstrate, adaptability, effective organizational skills and ability to manage change in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to practice effectively independently and as an effective tem member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated adaptability and ability to manage change in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and professional development
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC

Immunization Requirements:

  • Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to: 
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;  
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);  
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
