Job Description

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and team-oriented full-time Dispensary Assistant to join our Yurek Pharmacy & Home Healthcare team in St. Thomas, Ontario.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Dispensary Manager, the Dispensary Assistant is responsible for assisting the Pharmacists in properly processing prescriptions for patients/customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • As a member of the dispensary team, be able to complete all required tasks in the dispensary, both retail and packaging and to ensure they provide exemplary customer service that meets Yurek standards.
  • Triage Rx processing and data entry when necessary and constantly prioritize the order of completion according to deliver or pick up expectations, compounds, and special patient requests, completing wait time forms for KPI’s where required.
  • Accurately count pills according to the SOP and ensure the package is labelled accordingly (deliver, refrigerate, combine with other orders, etc).
  • Compound USP 795 mixtures when compounding training has been completed following all compounding policies and SOPs for cleaning.
  • Maintain and update mixture files in Kroll, as well as ensuring the compounding times are recorded accurately for KPI’s.
  • Able to source out resources required for specialty items and processes (PCCA/Medisca/Vaccines/Allergens/TB Meds/Injection Groups).
  • Count and maintain proper stock and control of compounding chemicals and supplies in consultation with the Dispensary Supervisor.
  • Be able to constantly prioritize and multi-task package, combine, and coordinate orders to assure continuity of flow of prescriptions through the Retail and Packaging Dispensaries, including waiting prescriptions, pickups, deliveries, compounds, and orders that have no time constraints.
  • Troubleshoot machines, computers, and printer issues in a timely fashion without affecting service.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of requirements for both Retail and Packaging Dispensaries to accommodate agreed upon contracts.
  • Maintain an acceptable level of supplies (vials, labels, custom print items, bags, for both YPL dispensary as well as YPL front shop and YPLL dispensary).
  • Communicate with clients to notify of doctor’s orders, or follow up of completed and/or stale dated orders.
  • Order, receive, and rotate stock of dispensary medication, expired meds and returns, investigating backordered items and identifying/sourcing interchangeable drugs based on the formulary.
  • Perform cycle counts and/or maintenance of inventory throughout the year, with in-depth counts yearly.
  • Log narcotics in and out of safe contents for control of narcotics.
  • Identify eligible PharmaSync clients, syncing meds, maintenance of spreadsheet and control of patient refills in a timely manner.
  • Constant control and review of faxes, PrescribeIt, Internet Orders throughout the day, refaxing, calling for pending authorizations, modifying and/or amending existing Rx’s.
  • Process daily Methadone and Suboxone drinks and carries, maintaining the Methadone Spreadsheet.
  • Constant maintenance, cleaning, filling, reports as required by the ScriptPro Machine, as well as SynMed and PacMed machines.
  • Triage phones, taking orders, and transferring calls to the appropriate individual or department
  • Attend to customers at both ends of Retail Dispensary, both receiving Rx’s, answering queries, and handing out completed orders if no Pharmacist counsel is required. Call, text, or email patients for completed and prepared orders.
  • Book and schedule Pharmacist consultations.
  • Maintain Hazardous Waste room in basement (performing destructions of medications, and preparing sharps containers for pickup by Supplier).
  • Set up clients interested in compliance packaging (discuss packaging options, pick up or delivery, what to expect if there is a medication change).
  • Accurately run both SynMed and PacMed machines.
  • Return any packaging that has not left the store to stock.
Education, Skills, and Job Requirements:
  • Completion of High School Diploma.
  • Community College Accreditation as a Dispensary Assistant or on the job training is preferred but not required.
  • Specialized PCCA and/or Aseptic Technique training either on or off-site where required.
