VH IP General Surgery

The General Surgery Unit is a high acuity 38 bed unit located on B9-100.  The patient population consists of those receiving emergent and elective surgical treatment for cancers of bowel, pancreas, thyroid and adrenal gland. Treatment and management of fistulas, hepato-biliary disease and bowel obstructive disorders is also provided.

Regular Full-Time

Hours of Work:    37.50 hours per week

Rate of Pay:         $39.07 -  $56.00 per hour

Qualifications

• Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario

• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course:  BLS-HCP(C) for which you can provide proof upon request

• Minimum two years of recent General Surgery experience preferred

• Current demonstrated knowledge of general surgical nursing principles, assessment and technical skills

• Demonstrated competency in PCA/Epidural management

• Current skill in venipuncture and IV starts preferred

• Demonstrated excellent clinical skills and knowledge

• Proficient computer and keyboarding skills including the use of such programs as PowerChart, Outlook and Internet Explorer

• Demonstrated excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

• Demonstrated effective organizational skills involving time management and prioritization

• Demonstrated initiative and ability to work both independently and as an effective team member

• Proven ability to function productively in a very demanding environment with a large patient turnover

• Demonstrates problem solving and critical thinking skills in a variety of situations

• Demonstrated commitment to professional development and self-directed learning

• Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems

• Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care

• Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC

• Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose, and Values

• Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
