Job Summary

 

Lawson Health Research Institute (Lawson) is the research institute of London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. As one of Canada’s top ten research institutes, we are committed to furthering scientific knowledge to advance health care around the world.

 The Research Coordinator collaborates with other research coordinators and investigators to manage and facilitate several gynecologic cancer studies for the Cancer Research Laboratory Program and Department of Oncology at the London Regional Cancer Program at Victoria Hospital. Research projects mostly consist of investigator-initiated studies, as well as some industry-sponsored and cooperative group-sponsored studies. This position will provide an excellent opportunity for a dynamic individual with demonstrated organizational and communication skills. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: development and maintenance of REB-approved study protocols; coordination of efforts among PIs and staff for research studies; recruitment of study participants (e.g. identify and screen potential subjects, obtain informed consent); coordination of patient visits schedules as per study protocol; execution of all aspects of study visit (e.g. assessment of adverse events, medication, questionnaires, sample collection, shipment of samples); facilitation of tumour biobanking activities with scientists of the Translational Ovarian Cancer Research Unit and Ontario Tumour Bank staff; and coordinate quarterly update meetings with study PIs and supervisors. The Research Coordinator would implement and coordinate aspects of data collection and source documentation as per LHSC policy and ICH/GCP guidelines.

Rate of Pay:           Commensurate with experience

Hours of Work:     Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Duration:                12 months, renewable on annual basis

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a recognized Master’s degree in a relevant and/or related field
  • Minimum of (1) year recent and relevant clinical research experience, preferably with experience confidentially handling patient data
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously, be able to work under pressure, and have the flexibility to adjust to changing schedules and deadlines
  • Effective communication skills to foster a respectful, inclusive and collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient- and family-centred care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
  • Able to implement and coordinate aspects a small clinical study including facilitation of study activation, coordination with team members, data and sample collection, and assistance with data analysis
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills for grant and REB protocol preparation and for updates on study results and progress
  • Able to organize workload and manage daily competing priorities in a health care environment
  • Act as central point of communication for study management, manage data and specimen collection
  • Working knowledge, or ideally prior experience, in Human Research Ethics, Tri-council policy, Good Clinical Practices, Health Canada and FDA regulations an asset
