Program Overview
The Clinical Neurological Sciences (CNS) program provides patient-centred care to Acute Neurology and Neurosurgery patients. Specialty care within Neurology includes: Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Neuromuscular Disorders, Regional Stroke Program, Regional Multiple Sclerosis Clinic, and Neuro-Critical Care. 
The Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) was founded in 1987 by Dr. Warren T. Blume and Dr. John P. Girvin. The Epilepsy Program at LHSC is widely recognized for its highly qualified team of professionals consisting of Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Epileptologists, Nurses, Clinical Psychologist, Neuropsychologists, Psychometrist, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Electroencephalograph Technologists, Epilepsy Navigator, Epilepsy Fellows, Neurology Residents, and Personal Support Workers.

The EMU at University Hospital has become the largest in Canada and the 11-bed unit provides care for national and international patients. The Epilepsy Unit is devoted to the investigation of patients for possible epilepsy surgery, aids in the diagnosis of epilepsy and other related conditions, and evaluates patients for other types of treatment. Three of the main reasons for EMU admissions are diagnosis, classification of seizure type and pre-surgical evaluation.

Hours:  Full-time

Rate of Pay: $35.77 per hours - $48.78 per hour 
In addition to the duties required of a Certified EEG Technician, the Senior EEG Technician will be a channel of communication among the CNS Leadership, Technicians and Physicians. The Senior EEG Technician will be responsible for the orientation and training for new EEG Technicians as well as coordinating daily workload, providing technical guidance and supervision to assigned staff. The Senior EEG Technician will be responsible for assuring the efficient and effective operation of the EEG Laboratories at UH & VH and for ensuring the quality standards for technical equipment is maintained at all time.
  • Certification by the Canadian Board of Registered EEG Technologist (CBRET)
  • Membership with Canadian Association of Electroneurophysiology Technologist (CAET) preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support BLS-HCP preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years of related experience conducting inpatient and outpatient electroencephalograms (EEGs)
  • Demonstrated leadership, teaching, coaching, mentorship and familiarity with principles of change
  • Proficient Adult and Paediatric EEG Knowledge
  • Advanced patient assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation skills
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated strong ability to prioritize multiple and changing demands that require attention to detail in a high-volume environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated advanced documentation and technical skills for troubleshooting equipment/image quality
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Mission, Vision and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
