Job Summary

 

Lawson Health Research Institute (Lawson) is the research institute of London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. As one of Canada’s top ten research institutes, we are committed to furthering scientific knowledge to advance health care around the world.

 The Hebb laboratory is inviting applications for a Research Lab Technician position, initially half-time with potential transition to full-time if desired and funding permits. The new position requires an enthusiastic interest in brain cancer research. Studies will utilize tissues from living human and animal brain, cell culture and a broad range of cellular, molecular, imaging and in vivo investigations. We are looking for an experienced individual comfortable to direct research trainees while maintaining the day-to-day needs of the lab. Ideally this individual would also be versed in lab methods as below, or be interested to learn so able to participate in the multitude of research studies ongoing. The lab is part of a vibrant collaborative network focused on developing new therapeutics for the worst of brain cancers that currently have no effective therapy. We partner with basic scientists and clinicians in multiple fields as well as industry partners in the region and internationally. We are hoping to add a dynamic individual to our team to actively contribute to the progress!

 Rate of Pay:                    To commensurate with experience

Hours of Work:               Temporary Part Time - 18.75 hours per week

Duration:                         One-year, renewable

Qualifications

 
  • Education required (BSc or postgraduate degree)
  • Recent related experience in a similar role is an asset
  • Adept at cell culture
  • Previous experience with cellular and molecular biology and histopathology preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, ability to work autonomously, and good organizational and time management skills with attention to detail and prioritization
  • Previous experience with small animal handling and care; previous rodent surgery experience an asset
  • Punctual and reliable work ethic

Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to: 

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;  
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);  
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
