Job Description
In collaboration with The Rheumatology Department at St. Joseph’s Hospital, The Paediatric Rheumatology team at Children’s Hospital is looking for a passionate and motivated Research Nurse to assist in our research at the Behçet Syndrome and Autoinflammatory Disease Center. The Research Nurse offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and adolescents with complex rheumatologic conditions. The research nurse will be at the forefront of innovative research while delivering compassionate care to young patients and their families, furthering our mission to improve the understanding and treatment of rare diseases and make significant impacts in this field of research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Recruitment and Informed Consent: Identify and screen potential study participants and explain the study's purpose, procedures, and risks to participants and obtain informed consent.
-Data Collection and Documenting and Patient Follow up: Accurately document clinical and research data, including patient medical histories, physical assessments, and laboratory results. Conducting participant follow-up interviews in-person and over the telephone, interaction and coordination with various departments, ensure meticulous chart and record-keeping in compliance with regulatory requirements.
-Clinical Care: Provide direct patient care in accordance with study protocol
- Supervising, observing and performing patient care
-Safety Monitoring: Monitor and report adverse events and side effects experienced by pediatric patients during research procedures.
- Collaboration: Collaborating with clinicians, scientists, and patient representatives to address patient health care challenges- Communication: Follow up on lab results and coordinate with health care team
- Coordinating and scheduling study participants’ appointments as well as communicating with trial sponsors in regards to study documentation, requests for clarifications of data and/or assisting monitors during site visits
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that all clinical and research materials are handled according to Good Clinical Practice and Institutional privacy guidelines, assisting in the preparation submission of research protocols for institutional review board (IRB) approval.
Rate of Pay: To commensurate with experience
Hours of Work: 7.5 hours per week
Duration: One year, with possibility of renewal
Requirements:
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum 5 years of recent Paediatric Rheumatology nursing
- Minimum of two years research experience
- Experience recruiting and consenting study participants; experience administering study
questionnaires and conducting study patient interviews
- Expertise performing blood draws, with Paediatric experience required
- Knowledge of local REB requirements and Lawson approval process
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with study participants and co-workers
- Demonstrated cooperation in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, execute and assist with several research studies
- Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with electronic data entry (eCRFs) and databases (e.g., REDCap)
- Experience designing and maintaining study databases (i.e. REDCap)
- Experience in clinical data collection from electronic medical records (i.e, Powerchart) preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Highly motivated and self-directed
- Ability to travel between work sites (Victoria Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital) required
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
-Ethical conduct and unwavering commitment to patient safety and well-being.
-Pediatric nursing experience is highly desirable
