The Division of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery at London Health Sciences Centre is seeking a Full-time Nurse Practitioner, with Ortho/Trauma /Surgical experience preferred, to partake in Ortho/Trauma/Surg in-patient area. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeons, residents, nurses, and support staff in a Western University associated academic centre. The NP will interact daily to manage, direct and provide comprehensive care for the Ortho/Trauma/Surg patient population in an exciting collaborative interdisciplinary team environment; as well as lead and work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team to ensure timely and comprehensive discharge planning for the select patient population.
The Nurse Practitioner is a self-directed advanced practice nurse prepared at the graduate and post-graduate level, who demonstrates a high level of autonomy working to scope, both independently and within a collaborative practice model. Using advanced assessment skills and a sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics, the NP demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge base in Surgical Care and exhibits a high degree of clinical competence in caring for Orthopaedic surgical patients with acute and specialized healthcare needs.
The NP in the Orthoapedic Trauma Surgery Program will report to the Director of Inpatient Surgical Services and will work collaboratively with members of the Ortho/Trauma/Surgery program. The NP will interact daily with the interdisciplinary team to manage, direct and provide comprehensive care for a select patient population. The NP works with key stakeholders to provide advanced care that optimizes patient outcomes and enhances safety, effectiveness and accessibility. The NP in this program will engage in scholarly activities and advance knowledge by providing clinical leadership, identify opportunities for improving patient care, advancing best practices, promoting professional education and engaging in research.
All duties and responsibilities of the NP conform to professional standards and hospital guidelines.

Qualifications
- Successful completion of Master’s Degree in Nursing (MScN)
- Nurse Practitioner Primary Care or Nurse Practitioner Adult certificate
- College of Nurses of Ontario: Registered Nurse Certificate of Competence with Extended Class
- Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C); ACLS preferred
- Current member of Nurse Practitioners’ Associate of Ontario (NPAO) or Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
- Minimum 5 years recent related surgical experience
- Recent experience collaborating with external agencies and community partners preferred
- Advanced presentation skills including the application of adult learning principles, change theory and systems theory in a clinical environment
- Proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, Power Chart and Outlook
- Previous experience as a Nurse Practitioner is an asset
- Ability to provide project management skills to promote evidence-based strategies and initiatives for Transitional Care Planning; ability to work in partnership with relevant LHSC staff and physicians
- Thorough understanding and commitment to Patient and Family Centred Care principles and ability to use in practice
- Ability to recognize own feelings, express them fully and constructively manage own feelings in challenging and emotionally charged situations
- Ability to express ideas clearly, confidently and directly and work through conflicts and differences in a respectful way
- Ability to understand the feelings, concerns and needs of other people, demonstrate care and interest towards them and establish and maintain productive relationships
- Ability to stay effective and resilient when dealing with adverse circumstances and multiple demands
- Ability to demonstrate an optimistic disposition toward new experiences and change in general
- Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
