Facilities Management
Reporting to the Coordinator, Facilities Engineering, Plumbers are responsible for the delivery of potable and non-potable water, wastewater, process piping, fire protection and medical gases. This encompasses the installation, maintenance, repair and monitoring of each system.
Hours of Work: Shifts are required by unit and subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement
Rate of Pay: $37.10 per hour - $37.77 per hour
Note: In accordance with the Letter of Understanding between LHSC and Unifor Local 27, this role is entitled to a market rate adjustment of $7.00 per hour for all hours worked, and is in addition to the applicable starting rate for the successful candidate. The need for market rate adjustments will be reviewed on an annual basis and may be subject to change.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a one year certificate program; plumber, 720 hours
- Certificate of Qualification as a Plumber (306a)
- 4 years recent related experience required
- Valid Ontario Drivers License preferred
- Certified Backflow device tester through Ontario Water Works preferred
- Certificate of Qualification as a Gas Technician II preferred
- Demonstrated experience with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of plumbing systems and equipment
- Demonstrated experience with Fire Protection systems and medical gas piping systems
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
- Computer and keyboarding skills, including Groupwise and Archibus
- Experience working in a Healthcare / industrial environment
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to interact positively and effectively with patients, public and staff
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and changing demands that require attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to solder and braze pipe and fittings safely, efficiently and ensuring a high level of quality
- Demonstrated ability to accurately complete hot work permits and submits as required
- Demonstrated ability to complete and report on work accurately and in a timely fashion
- Demonstrated ability to accomplish small projects from initial layout to completion, meeting target deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to make and execute decisions in extreme stress conditions, eg: fires, floods and other systems failures
- Demonstrated ability to identify and contain hazards while working with systems, ex. Sanitary back up
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC

- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
