Social Worker BSW- Paediatric Oncology, Children's Hospital

As integral members of the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) Patient Care Programs, Social Workers provide comprehensive social work services to patients and families. They conduct interviews, compile case histories, and complete psychosocial assessments to inform care planning. Social Workers prepare reports, maintain accurate and timely documentation, and offer emotional and practical support based on identified psychosocial needs. They also facilitate referrals to appropriate community resources and serve as a key resource on psychosocial matters for hospital staff and community partners. The Social Worker reports to a manager within Children's Hospital and are supported by Health Discipline Professional Practice.

Temporary  Full - Time

Rate of Pay:     $48.19 per hour - $60.23 per hour

Hours:               37.50 hours per week

Duration:          up to April 2026 

Qualifications

 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from an accredited university
  • Current registration in Social Work with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • Minimum two (2) years of recent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge with the Mental Health Act; Substitute Decision Makers Act and Health Care Consent Act preferred
  • Skilled in psychosocial assessment
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and Implement strategies with patient/family by establishing a therapeutic relationship.
  • Demonstrated excellent clinical assessment skills
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Demonstrated skill in crisis assessment and intervention
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community services and resources and experience with community networking
  • Demonstrated strength in interpersonal relations, problem-solving, crisis intervention, group dynamics, community development and other innovative approaches
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and interdependently with a diversity of health care team members
  • Demonstrated skill in providing education to health care team and community resources
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's vision, purpose and values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:  

Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to: 

Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;  

Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);  

Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health's current definition of being fully vaccinated
