Salary Range: $38.80 - $39.19 /hour
St. Joseph’s Health Care is willing to consider applicants who are eligible for Community Commitment Program for Nurses (CCPN). This program provides $25,000 in grant funding to eligible RPNs/RNs/ Nurse Practitioners in exchange for a two-year full-time commitment. The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families through the application of foundational knowledge and judgment in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The Surgical day care Unit is a fast-paced unit that provides perioperative patient care in the preoperative and postoperative phases of the patient's surgical experience. St. Joseph's is a unique ambulatory hospital that specializes in minimally invasive same-day and short-stay surgery.
Perioperative services ensure competent pre-screening, admission, post-surgery, and inpatient care. Our surgical services include orthopedics, urology, general surgery including breast care, ophthalmology, Otolaryngology (Head and Neck) and Gynecology.
Essential Qualifications
- Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Valid CPR certificate
- Successful completion of a nursing competency test
- Recent experience in adult acute medicine, med/surgical, surgical experience in the last three years
- Demonstrated IV skills, used within the past two (2) years
- Proficiency in pharmacology and medication administration, including IV medication administration with a physician?s order, IV management and therapy, blood transfusions, chest auscultation, and airway management.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced outpatient environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Expertise in decision-making, critical thinking, and clinical problem-solving.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish positive relationships as an effective team member.
- Experience and knowledge of nursing care needs for surgical preoperative and postoperative patients.
- Ability to apply and document the nursing process effectively.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including proper body mechanics.
- Excellent assessment skills and adaptability in a constantly changing environment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrated values-based behavior and superior communication skills.
- Basic computer skills, including email and Electronic Patient Records
- Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
Preferred Qualifications- Proficiency in French would be an asset
- Certification in venipuncture

Immunization Requirements- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
