The Benefit Consultant is the subject matter expert and plays a crucial role in managing group health, life and dental insurance programs, and long-term disability, with a focus on designing and managing the corporate employee benefits programs (across all unionized and non-union employee groups). Working alongside key London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) stakeholders, the Consultant supports creation, implementation and management of benefit packages that attract and retain employees, while balancing costs and ensuring compliance with regulations, and making recommendations for cost sharing between employee and employer premiums. Reporting directly to the Manager, Occupational Health and Employee Services, the Benefits Consultant oversees the development and maintenance of effective and efficient systems, processes, and procedures for all benefit needs at LHSC, and supports benefit grievance preparation, as well as negotiations and collective bargaining. This position is also responsible for overseeing/informally leading any significant projects related to the administration of a corporate benefit program (examples include transition of benefits providers, market analysis of benchmark comparator benefit offerings and subsequent redesign of benefits offering).

Regular Full-Time

Rate of Pay: $41.12 per hour - $51.39 per hour

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a diploma in Human Resources, Business or Finance
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance or related field preferred
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), or Certified Human Resources Professional/Leader (CHRP/CHRL) preferred
  • 5 years of progressive experience with employee benefits
  • Knowledge of Collective Agreements, and Hospital policy as it pertains to benefits and insurance carriers
  • Knowledge of Employment Legislation, HR policies & practices, as well as employee rights and obligations
  • Extensive expertise, knowledge, and understanding of health and welfare plan administration
  • Highly developed consulting skills to provide advice, guidance, and influence leaders
  • Excellent analytical and reporting skills
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills including facilitation and networking skills
  • Excellent verbally and written communication skills; including strong proofreading skills and the ability to communicate effectively in person and virtually
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite, social media, and corporate productivity tools
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Vision, Purpose, and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);  
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
