Nursing Practice Excellence & Innovation

Area of Assignment: Pediatric High Dependency Transition Unit (HDTU), Paediatric Critical Care

An exciting opportunity exists for a creative, energetic individual with excellent communication and teaching ability in the role of Clinical Educator in Nursing Practice Excellence and Innovation with the assignment of Paediatric High Dependency Transition Unit (HDTU) – at Victoria Hospital.  Drawing on solid clinical experience and foundational knowledge in the specialty of Paediatric Critical Care, the Educator will work in partnership with various members of the leadership team across the program to promote excellence in this patient care area. The incumbent will plan, facilitate and evaluate ongoing learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of staff members across the career span; identify ongoing learning needs and facilitate professional development in interdisciplinary staff and provide leadership to the program in educational initiatives; identify, develop, implement, and revise HDTU nursing practice and departmental policy; and work collaboratively with Clinical Educators across LHSC in the development, provision, and assessment of Central Nursing Orientation and PSW orientation for new hires to LHSC. 

Regular Part-Time

Rate of Pay:                   $41.33 per hour -  $59.69 per hour

Qualifications

 
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario 
  • Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN), or Masters of Nursing (MN) or related field required; will consider applicants who are currently enrolled and working towards this Master's program
  • Minimum four years recent, related experience in either a clinical or teaching role
  • Minimum two years recent, related experience working in a paediatric critical care setting
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C)
  • Current Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course, or willingness to complete course within a specified time frame as required by the Hospital
  • Demonstrated experience in providing Adult education
  • Previous experience teaching in Paediatric nursing preferred
  • Proficiency in computer and keyboarding skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, Outlook, and the Internet)
  • Demonstrated proficient knowledge in Adult Education theories
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate ongoing learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of staff members across their career span
  • Demonstrated ability to organize/implement corporate, central nursing orientation, department and program specific orientation, and delegated corporate initiatives
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice
  • Effective presentation skills; experience in e-learning preferred
  • Proven coaching skills, evaluating the development of staff and providing appropriate feedback
  • Strong project management and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate learner development and socialization and the ability to use assessment and evaluation strategies effectively
  • Ability to participate in curriculum Design and Evaluation of Program outcomes
  • Demonstrated ongoing commitment to pursue Continuous Quality Improvement
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, interpersonal skills, team building and conflict management skills with individuals as well as program teams/groups
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to network effectively with other disciplines
  • Highly developed critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Recognition, understanding, and demonstration of emotional intelligence and learning agility, particularly emotional self awareness, assertiveness, optimism, stress tolerance and empathy, demonstrated in a variety of situations
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC

Immunization Requirements: 

Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to: 

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;
