Critical Care Transport

The successful applicant will remain as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRt) and support Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) responsibilities. In addition, the extended role transport RRT will commit to a dedicated team to provide 24/7 transport of critically ill neonates and children for up to 50% of shifts. The extended role team will function under the direction of the Transport Medical Directives and physician transport leaders to stabilize an dprovide safe transport of the above population from community hospitals to the nearest accepting tertiary care Centre in the Province of Ontario. The successful applicant must commit to continued employment and assignment to the Critical Care Transport Team at Victoria Hospital for a period of three (3) years after the training period.

Qualifications

 
  • Current license from the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario

  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C)

  • NRP and PALS certification preferred

  • Two years previous work experience in a paediatric and/or level III neonatal critical care

  • Previous experience working on a Neonatal and/or Paediatric transport team preferred

  • Demonstrated clinical competence in assessment and intervention for the critically ill neonatal and paediatric patients

  • Commitment to ongoing education and professional development

  • Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to express ideas clearly, confidently and directly and work through conflicts and differences in a respectful way

  • Ability to recognize own feelings, express them fully and constructively manage own feelings in challenging and emotionally charged situations

  • Ability to express ideas clearly, confidently and directly and work through conflicts and differences in a respectful way

  • Ability to understand the feelings, concerns and needs of other people, demonstrate care and interest towards them and establish and maintain productive relationships

  • Ability to stay effective and resilient when dealing with adverse circumstances and multiple demands

Immunization Requirements:

Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step); 
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health's current definition of being fully vaccinated.
