Salary Range: $30.49 - $31.17 /hour


The Forensic Psychiatry Program has adopted the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Model as its overarching philosophical framework. This philosophy is built on a set of principles and values that emphasize patient and family involvement in decision making, patient choice, the provision of a range of services to meet treatment, rehabilitation and support needs, and a commitment from mental health services professionals to achieving the best possible outcomes for patients based on their stated preferences, wishes, desires and life plans.

Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, the occupational therapy assistant will work as a member of the interdisciplinary team. The role will serve to support enhanced therapeutic programming across the program to address patients? rehabilitation and support needs as they proceed on their recovery journeys.

Essential Qualifications

  • Current Physiotherapy Assistant and Occupational Therapy Assistant diplomas or dual OTA/PTA diploma from a recognized program that includes a placement component in each discipline.
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Knowledge of the principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery model
  • Demonstrated ability to apply and document the prescribed treatment, rehabilitation and support plan of care
  • Ability to establish positive interpersonal relationships and work as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to utilize computer systems (e.g. Microsoft programs, Cerner Power Chart, Infomed)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge, skills, and recent experience providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with serious mental illness
  • Experience working in community mental health
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation
  • Knowledge of the Forensic Psychiatry system
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset.

Immunization Requirements
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
