Salary Range: $20.60 - $20.60 /hour


This is a temporary part-time position that is expected to extend until March 31, 2026, subject to the availability of work.

Through a patient and family-centered approach, the Clinical Extern (physiotherapy) will work under the direct and/or indirect supervision of registered staff, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team as an unregulated care provider, to promote and advocate for wellness while ensuring the delivery of holistic, high quality and safe care to patients.

This is an exciting opportunity for physiotherapy students to work in a clinical environment where they can develop their clinical skills and expertise, knowledge, and self-confidence as they prepare to transition into a regulated health professional. The Externs will work at one of the St. Joseph's Health Care sites.

Reporting to the Professional Practice Partnership Program, the Clinical Extern (physiotherapy) will work part-time hours to a maximum of full-time hours (37.5 hours per week). The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on organizational needs and may include day/evening and weekend shifts.

The anticipated start: late April or early May 2025.



Essential Qualifications

  • Student in Physiotherapy enrolled in an academically accredited Physiotherapy post-secondary program.
  • Current certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Ability to work independently in patient care areas with direct and indirect supervision from a health professional
  • Ability to aid with activities of daily living, ROM, mobility, and orientation under the supervision of a regulated health professional
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Knowledge of a safety culture in a health care setting in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Ability to apply effective body mechanics and lift and transfer skills to meet physical demands
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and organizational skills
Teaching and Research
  • St Joseph's Health Care London through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College is a leading research and teaching hospital. As an employee of St Josephs, you may be expected to engage in roles related to teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties
Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and a written commitment to follow any future Public Health recommendations and St. Joseph's Health Care London policies and processes related to COVID management in the workplace.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
