The Professional Staff Relations Consultant is an integrated role that provides expert guidance and support on non-clinical performance and conduct issues involving Credentialed Professional Staff (CPS) and medical trainees (students, residents, fellows) at London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Hospital. This includes investigating and resolving complex concerns related to human rights, workplace harassment, patient relations, privacy, risk, and safety, in alignment with relevant legislation and organizational policies. 

 

Concerns may be raised by local leadership, Patient Relations, Human Resources, Risk, Quality, Privacy, the CEO's office, Western University, or directly to Medical Affairs. The Consultant works closely with medical leaders (e.g., Department Heads, Site Heads, Division Heads) and supervisors (e.g., Residency Program Directors) to assess, investigate, and resolve issues. They also identify emerging themes and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement initiatives that support a respectful, positive organizational culture.

 

Regular Full - Time 

 

Rate of Pay: $52.16 per hour - $65.20 per hour

 

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, please note that some flexibility may be required in work hours as meetings may take place outside of regular business hours 

Qualifications

 
  • 5 years of related HR or Risk Management experience in a large complex hospital setting; 3 years of experience conducting workplace investigations, risk management, professional regulations, dispute resolution
  • Prior leadership experience preferred 
  • Expert level knowledge of workplace investigation processes and applicable labour/employment legislation including the Public Hospital Act, Regulated Health Professions Act, LHSC Credentialed Professional Staff By-laws/Rules & Regulations, Ontario Human Rights Code, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and privacy legislation, Employment Law
  • Uses strong oral and written communication skills to lead investigations and health inquiries, prepare reports and settlement agreements, present findings, facilitate training and restorative processes, and engage system partners with clarity, sensitivity, and confidentiality
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills, including experience with mediation and other Alternate Dispute Resolution techniques and processes
  • Builds and maintains trust with diverse stakeholders through strong relationship management, handling sensitive and confidential matters with discretion, sound judgment, and diplomacy, even in high-stakes or tense situations
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills
  • Applies advanced analytical and critical thinking skills to assess complex cases by interpreting legislation (e.g., PHA, RHPA, hospital by-laws), gathering and analyzing evidence, resolving inconsistencies, and determining appropriate regulatory responses
  • Demonstrates strong planning and case management skills to balance competing priorities, develop efficient processes, and ensure timely progression and resolution of all files
  • Flexible availability to adjust working hours outside regular hours, including early mornings or evenings, as needed to accommodate meetings
  • Proficient computer skills including strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications
  • Strong understanding of academic partnerships in a healthcare environment and five years? experience within a teaching Hospital or hospital setting preferred
  • Demonstrated continuous process improvement orientation, to look critically at existing processes preferred
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose, and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
