We are looking for a research assistant to support numerous projects surrounding child & environmental health for the Children's Environmental Health Clinic Ontario (ChEHC ON), at Children's Hospital LHSC and Climate Change, Environment & Health Collaborative (C2EHC). This includes helping implement the Land Base Healing | Nature for Healing program, involving prescribing nature connections & developing new naturalized areas (natureforhealing.org), knowledge translation work to promote understanding of how environmental issues & climate change effect child health (c2ehc.ca), studies investigating the health effects of environmental issues and improving hospital sustainability.
Responsibilities would include: Help organize interdisciplinary collaborative activities & meetings that include community members for various projects, take minutes & create agendas. Support grant applications to expand our funding and grant funding. Opportunity to support research manuscripts for CV building & future experience, as well as learn how to/support the design, ethics applications, start-up and participate in various research and quality improvement studies. Coordinate public-facing knowledge exchange activities for Child Environmental Health & Climate Change Environment & Health Collaborative (we have infographics/educational material developed for the roll-out aimed to support community engagement & knowledge translation). Could include the design infographics & videos, podcast editing, to support knowledge translation efforts if this is of interest.
This is a dynamic research environment that demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines while maintaining a patient-centered approach.
Rate of Pay: To commensurate with experience
Hours of Work: Up to 30 hours/week
Duration: 12 month contract with the possibility of extension
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a degree in Health Sciences, Public Health, Geography, Environmental Science or other related field required
- Minimum 1 year of related experience or exposure to relevant work is preferable.
- Understanding/awareness of current climate change/environmental/public health concerns and conditions
- Strong problem-solving skills, flexibility to changing work priorities
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Proficient time management skills, ability to meet tight deadlines
- Responsible and self-motivated with the ability to take initiative in an environment with limited supervision
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments in a timely manner
- Available to work a flexible schedule
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Teams and ability to adapt to/learn new programs with ease
- Experience with manuscript preparation preferred
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Demonstrated commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC (see lhsc.on.ca for more information)
