The St. Joseph's Family Medical Centre was the first community-based Family Medical Centre in Canada. It was founded in 1969 as a partnership with the University of Western Ontario, St. Joseph's Hospital, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada. The facility at 346 Platt's Lane has been in operation since 1985. The St. Joseph's Family Medical and Dental Centre provides comprehensive health care with a patient-centered focus. Family medicine is delivered through active health promotion, ongoing supportive care and the active treatment of disease.

The Family Medical and Dental Centre continues to be a partnership between St. Joseph's Health Care London and the University of Western Ontario Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. The centre supports a quality undergraduate and post-graduate education program, advancing medical knowledge through clinic research.

The Registered Nurse works collaboratively with the interprofessional team to provide client-centred evidenced-based and coordinated care to patients. The RN focuses on providing assessment, screening, healthy lifestyle support, education, and chronic disease management with a goal of improving health outcomes.

Essential Qualifications

  • Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Valid CPR certificate
  • Minimum of one year family practice and/or public health experience in the last 3 years
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of family practice nursing throughout an individuals life cycle, along with comprehensive assessment skills
  • Knowledge of community resources and the ability to assist patients and families to navigate the health care system
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and experience in the development of teaching materials and the teaching of patients, families, and care-givers
  • Previous experience dealing with health promotion and preventative medicine
  • Demonstrated effective communication, collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in critical thinking and clinical problem-solving skills
  • Self-directed, strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team and to provide significant nursing leadership to an interprofessional team focused on family centred-care
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • Experience in public speaking and preparation of educational material
  • Demonstrated computer experience, particularly with Outlook and computerized patient information systems (including the Telus Practice Solutions Suite EMR)
Teaching and Research
  • St Joseph's Health Care London through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College is a leading research and teaching hospital. As an employee of St Joseph's, you will be expected to engage in role related teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties
Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
