Respiratory Therapy Services - Victoria Hospital and University Hospital

The Registered Respiratory Therapist is available to provide cardio-respiratory care and related clinical technology support to patients at Victoria Hospital. 24/7 coverage is provided by Respiratory Therapists in scheduled shifts of 7.5 or 11.25 hours. Care assignments can include CCTC, Wards, Emergency, NICU, paediatrics and transport team as well as other areas where specific training has been completed.  Registered Respiratory Therapists are also active members of the Pre-Arrest and Cardiac Arrest Teams.

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a recognized Respiratory Therapy Program required; completion of Bachelors Degree in a related field preferred
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
  • Current membership with the Respiratory Therapy Society of Ontario and/or Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and/or the Ontario Respiratory Care Society and/or other related associations preferred
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certificate preferred
  • Previous Respiratory Therapy experience working in a critical care environment; recent experience working in Paediatric critical care preferred
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)  preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer programs (ie. Outlook, PowerChart, Infomed) relevant to all pertinent documentation and workload data collection
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective team member
  • Ability to demonstrate a proven track record of taking the initiative and contributing to the department, the hospital and the practice is preferred
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving, decision-making and critical thinking skills
  • Exhibits a positive and enthusiastic attitude toward his/her work
  • Demonstrated ability to work through difficult situations and in a high stress, dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated effective conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s vision, purpose and values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diptheria/Polio; Meningitis
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step)
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health's current definition of being fully vaccinated
