Art Therapist - Children's Care

To provide consultation and counseling in a patient-centered framework, eliciting patient/family participation in treatment planning. To provide clinical art therapy assessments and treatment for all outpatient children in the PMDU, Ambulatory Clinics, Mental Health, Inpatients and other patients on referral. To use art expression and therapeutic play to focus on the psychosocial needs of children and their siblings and family. To provide continuity of care from outpatient to inpatient settings, providing both individual and group experiences, and extending service to siblings. To provide training, educational, and consultation services to staff, students, community, and educational institutions. To participate in public relations and fund raising activities.

Temporary Full-Time

Rate of Pay:                    $46.79 per hour to $58.48 per hour

Hours of Work:               37.5 hours per week

Duration:                         until June 2026 

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a three year Undergraduate degree in Psychology, Social Science or Fine Arts
  • Post Graduate Diploma of a recognized Art Therapy program
  • Registered Member in good standing with a Regulatory College - College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), Ontario College of Social Workers (OCSWSSW)
  • Registered Member in good standing with a Professional Art Therapy Association ? Ontario Art Therapy Association (OATA), Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA), American Art Therapy Association (AATA)
  • Minimum one year recent, related experience
  • Recent experience in a paediatric health care setting preferred
  • Experience in grief and bereavement counseling preferred
  • Comfort with non-directive spontaneous art
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent organization, problem solving, decision making, and time management skills
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and group facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be spontaneous, creative, enthusiastic, self-directed, motivated, and flexible
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC?s vision, purpose and values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
