Social Worker (MSW), Veterans Care Program- 1 position
Veterans Care Program
Parkwood Institute Main - London, ON
Temporary Part Time
Salary Range: $44.67 - $57.90 /hour


Temporary position anticipated to extend until December 24, 2026, and is subject to the availability of work

The Veterans Care Program assists war service Veterans whose daily functioning and health may be affected by chronic physical and mental illnesses and episodic health problems. You will provide quality care and work within a comprehensive interdisciplinary team to promote the health and well-being and meet the social, emotional and spiritual needs of Veterans requiring substantial assistance with activities of daily living. We support Veterans to be as independent as possible and to reach their full capability within a safe environment. Families are key partners in our care team and are supported by the team to adjust and adapt to the changing needs of the family member.

Essential Qualifications

  • Valid registration as a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • Masters Degree in Social Work
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Demonstrated experience working in a goal oriented, evidence based, outcome-oriented practice
  • Strong crisis intervention, advocacy, conflict management and facilitation skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to function effectively independently within an interdisciplinary team setting
  • Excellent organizational, time management and communication
  • Demonstrated skills in providing education to patients, families and the health care team
  • Demonstrated strength in written/verbal communication and case management
  • Knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses and treatments, psychotropic medications and symptom management
  • Strong discharge planning skills
  • Proficient computer skills with a variety of programs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge and ability to mobilize community health, social and welfare resources in the region, particularly those with relevance to the Veteran Community
  • Supports research and innovation in practice, previous experience in research an asset
  • Familiarity with outcome measurement related to clinical practice, ability to measure and evaluate practice change outcomes
Teaching and Research
  • St. Joseph's Health Care London through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College is a leading research and teaching hospital. As an employee of St. Joseph's, you will be expected to engage in role related teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties
Immunization Requirements
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
