Pathology and Laboratory Medicine - Microbiology

As a member of PaLM, the Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) works under the supervision of the Manager for the Microbiology Laboratory in coordination with the Senior Medical Laboratory Technologists.  MLTs in the Microbiology laboratory are responsible for Bacteriology, Virology, Serology, Molecular Microbiology/Virology, Epidemiology, Mycology and some special projects. This position requires the ability to travel to other campuses to fulfill the duties of the position.

Qualifications

  • Current registration or eligible as a Medical Laboratory Technologist with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario with authorization to practice relevant specialties in Laboratory Medicine
  • Certification with C.S.M.L.S or equivalent
  • Previous experience in bacteriology and virology preferred
  • Demonsatrated knowledge of gram stains, Identification and susceptibility testing methods
  • Previous experience using Total Lab Automation (TLA).
  • Ability to work 24/7 shifts
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision 
  • Demonstrated accuracy and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) as well as conflict resolution skills 
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, develop and maintain effective relationships within healthcare teams
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, purpose and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
