Position Summary:
As a member of the Management Team, the Allied Health Manager is accountable for leading and fostering an environment that exhibits accountability, excellent patient care, clinical best practices, innovation and change. The Allied Health Manager takes responsibility for Physiotherapy/Rehabilitation/Occupational Therapy/Social Work/Respiratory Therapy/Clinical Nutrition/Speech Language Pathology/Diabetes Education Program at all MHA sites and ensures that Allied Health services actively contribute towards strategic directions and continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, the manager is accountable for access and flow at both inpatient sites, including collaboration with regional partners and Ontario Health at Home.
Responsibilities Include:
Ensures that individualized care plans for all patients requiring specific therapeutic programs are developed by the appropriate clinician/therapist.
Assists with problem solving and management of challenging cases to facilitate positive outcomes.
Develops, in cooperation with the inter-professional team, care standards which meet therapeutic program needs of patients, and which are compatible with identified standards for the relevant professions.
Monitors staff compliance with documentation as per departmental and hospital policy and disciplines specific standards of practice.
Mentors and supports Allied Health Department staff.
Supervises and assists with the education and professional development of Allied Health Department staff.
Ensures, through positive communication and cooperative strategies, which the Allied Health Department staff contribute to inter-professional patient care.
Ensures that the Allied Health Department functions within the Hospital vision, mission, values, goals and objectives, policies and procedures.
Seeks insight into patient/family care needs and works with the inter-professional team to develop solutions/service delivery that provides exceptional patient care.
Works with the VP Clinical Services/CNO to ensure that staff meet professional standards and supports ongoing professional learning and development.
Works collaboratively and authentically with other MHA leaders to advance positive changes aligned with the strategic plan.
Implements, maintains and evaluates standards of practice and incorporates best practice evidence into service delivery.
Ensures inter-professional approach to care, recognizing the unique contribution of each discipline.
Promotes collaborative practice, establishes processes and enablers to ensure effective teamwork and team communication.
Fosters trust and teaches new behaviours/approaches by example.
Facilitates and role models effective customer service and problem resolution.
Facilitates and supports effective team behaviour and development of a high-performance team.
Seeks opportunities for process and workflow improvements that enhance quality patient care and staff performance.
Plans, implements and evaluates process improvement initiatives.
Ensures the availability of optimal physical and environmental supplies and resources for the safe delivery of care.
Accountable for the administrative management of the department in accordance with the Public Hospitals Act, the mission, vision and values, strategic direction of Middlesex Hospital Alliance (MHA), Accreditation Canada standards, the Regulated Health Professionals Act, respective College standards, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Excellent Care for All Act, and relevant collective agreement (ONA).
Prepares reports and assigns projects in a timely manner, submitting documents as required.
Reviews and simplifies systems/structures/policies to support the vision of the Hospital.
Develops and nurtures partnerships with internal and external communities.
Participates appropriately in hospital-wide and external committees, projects and educational activities.
Monitors and evaluates Allied Health staff workload measurement and conducts regular staff performance reviews
Demonstrates leadership in implementing and/or improving processes related to the Allied Health Team.
Initiates and leads clinical and quality initiatives.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications/experience:
Baccalaureate Degree from a recognized University required, Master’s Degree preferred.
Member of Regulated Health Profession in good standing.
Minimum 3 years clinical experience in Acute or Rehabilitation hospital setting required.
A minimum of 1 year of managerial/leadership or demonstration of progressive leadership within a hospital setting, preferred.
Active involvement in own continuing education and health care interest groups.
Windows Operating System, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Cerner/Oracle.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and work with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and families.
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, evidence-based practice and self-directed learning.
Demonstrated effective listening, interpersonal, communication, critical thinking and leadership skills.
Commitment to continuous improvement and ability to foster change.
Demonstrated excellence in attendance.
Demonstrated excellence in customer service.
Understanding and demonstrated use of good body mechanics.
Must have own transportation, and ability to travel between sites.
