The Medicine and Family Medicine Program at London Health Sciences Centre offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to provide quality, patient-centred care for our patients and their families across the life continuum. Additionally, the program supports an education and research mandate expected of an academic teaching hospital. 

 

The Ambulatory and Inpatient services of the Medicine Program are delivered across two sites, and consist of the treatment of patients in the following specialty medical areas: General Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Respirology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Non-Oncologic Haematology, and Infectious Diseases.  

 

The medicine program spans across two sites, this role works in collaboration towards the strategic direction for the Program. This role includes accountability for the Adult Inpatient and Ambulatory Medicine programs at University Hospital.

What the Role is

Reporting to the Vice President, Medicine, Emergency Services, Critical Care, Clinical Neurological Sciences & Corporate Nursing Executive, the Director, Medicine - University Hospital will translate and execute on corporate, academic, and research mandates utilizing systems thinking, strategic planning, and purposeful coalition development with internal and external partners. This position requires someone with a proven track record for leading and driving systems transformation through encouraging and supporting innovation and championing and orchestrating change. developing and sustaining healthy work environments and effective teams while leading in a performance-driven culture.The Director, Medicine - University Hospital will develop high performing teams, organize program activities, direct resources, execute operational initiatives, formulate policies & procedures, and strategically plan for the future. 

 

The Director, Medicine - University Hospital, in dyadic partnership and with the Director, Medicine - Victoria Hospital, is accountable for overall program leadership, strategic direction, priority setting, performance, and care delivery. Excellence in patient care is lead through the adherence of policies and the creation of processes that are supported by partnerships and the integration of care within LHSC and the broader health system. The Medicine program at University Hospital includes 122 inpatient beds and almost 300 employees.  

 

The Director, Medicine - University Hospital will demonstrate strong business acumen including management of multi-million dollar operating and capital budgets. This leader will have exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills that contribute to identifying problems and issues, evaluating the interdependence of decisions, questioning and challenging the status quo, and designing and implementing processes for improvement.

NOTE: this role is required to be on-call, evenings and weekends on a rotational basis of approximately two to three weeks each year.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Successful completion of a recognized Master's Degree in a health care or related discipline preferred  
  • Current Certificate of Registration from a college recognized under the Regulated Health Professions Act preferred 
  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years' leadership experience, preferably in progressively more responsible leadership position(s) preferred 
  • Minimum five (5) years' previously related demonstrated leadership experience and understanding in a healthcare-related discipline, preferably in an academic acute care hospital 
  • Member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) who have, or are in process of attaining the Canadian Health Executive (CHE) Select certification program preferred 
  • Fluent and computer literate with computer systems such as email and Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint) 
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis. Note that clinical leadership positions at LHSC are identified as on-site positions
