The Division of Paediatric Surgery is seeking a Research Associate to cover a maternity leave from February 1st, 2025 to March 31st, 2026. The Research Associate will work with the current Research Coordinator in designing and implementing a wide range of studies from patient based randomized controlled trials to retrospective chart reviews and basic science studies. The Division is comprised of many active surgeons who have many different research interests such as the education, quality improvement, and different treatment for pediatric surgical diseases.
Rate of Pay: To commensurate with experience
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week
Duration of Contract: 12 months (maternity leave coverage)
Position Description:
- Liaise with the Division members (may include attending physicians or their residents/ medical students) concerning the development of research ideas
- Assist in the preparation/review of grant applications
- Assist with ethics preparation and submissions
- Prepare/maintain/update study documents in accordance with REB policies and procedures.
- Assist in the preparation and review of data for publication (manuscript/abstract/statistical analysis)
- Manage study budgets and invoicing
- Collect data, enter data, and maintain study databases (REDCap)
- Screen/consent/enroll patients in clinical studies
- Successful completion of a Bachelor?s degree in a relevant discipline such as clinical research, epidemiology
- Master?s degree in a relevant discipline such as clinical research, health research methodology etc.
- Minimum of 1-year previous research experience in the health care environment
- Demonstration of skills in literature searches and preparation of research data and findings
- Proficient in the use of web-based functionality, word processing, presentation and statistical software (REDCap, SAS/SPSS, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Excellent time management skills
- Experienced in preparing manuscripts and research grants
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as a member of a team collaborating with clinical experts, trainees and other allied health care professionals
- Demonstrated experience with data collection and interviewing patients
- Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Proven flexibility with a high level of initiative and self-direction
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
