Reporting to the Coordinator, Food Services, the Dietary Worker is responsible for preparing selected food items, cleaning assigned areas and equipment and providing prompt and efficient customer focused service. The Dietary Worker is also responsible for the accurate receipt and proper storage of Food Services goods, transportation of food, dishes and small equipment, as well as washing items used in the preparation and service of food. This position is physically demanding involving lifting, twisting, bending and standing for extended periods of time.

The incumbent must work within the policies, procedures and guidelines laid down by the department, the hospital, the Public Health Act, the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Department of Health. The successful candidate will be required to interact with staff, patients, visitors and Management with a pleasant, helpful manner and to maintain a high degree of patient confidentiality.

Rate of Pay: $23.97 per hour - $25.86 per hour

Hours of Work : Regular Part-time (Scheduled up to 75 hours bi-weekly)
Shifts and placements subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent acceptable to the Hospital
  • Successful completion of Food Handler Certificate (within last 5 years)
  • Knowledge of patient requirements with respect to prescribed diets, textures and allergies
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to perform the physically demanding duties of the position
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively and effectively with patients, public and staff
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work individually and as a member of a work team
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Vision, Purpose and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
