Occupational Therapist -Univeristy Hospital
The Occupational Therapist is accountable for providing occupational therapy services within the Surgery Program at University Hospital. The Occupational Therapist will provide collaborative, evidence informed practice within the Orthopaedic Surgery and Plastic Surgery services including inpatient and ambulatory settings. The Occupational Therapist will work closely with other Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapists' Assistants, and other members of the healthcare team. The Occupational Therapist reports directly to the Manager, Health Disciplines and indirectly to the Manager of Surgery.
Regular Full -Time
Rate of Pay: $42.55 per hour - $ 53.18per hour
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, weekends may be required
- Graduation from an accredited University Program with a Baccalaureate Degree or a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy
- Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- Current membership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists and/or the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists preferred
- Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) designation preferred
- Recent experience in the fabrication of custom splints for upper and lower extremity injuries
- Recent experience in the assessment and treatment of hand therapy and the management of upper extremity injuries
- Recent experience in wound care and the management and prevention of pressure ulcers preferred
- Recent clinical experience in the assessment and treatment of orthopaedic conditions preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work in a consultative model
- Demonstrated leadership in discharge planning and equipment recommendations
- Demonstrated competencies in interpersonal relations, communication (verbal and written), problem-solving, initiative, sound judgment, innovative practice and ethical decision-making
- Strongly developed spirit of inquiry and interest in furthering evidence informed practice
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as an interdisciplinary team member
- Demonstrated competence in organization skills and effective time management while maintaining flexibility and ability to adapt positively to constantly changing clinical situations
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s vision, purpose and values
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
Immunization Requirements:
Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:
- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);
- Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
