Supporting Dr. Radha Joseph, the Medical Secretary is responsible for planning and monitoring the daily organization of the clinic/office and providing secretarial support to the Physician in their clinical practice, academic and research responsibilities. This includes, but is not limited to, answering of telephones and contacting patients; general reception duties; scheduling of patient appointments; liaising with other medical and health professionals to facilitate patient referrals; preparation of correspondence; letter transcription; transcribing clinical notes

Regular Part-Time

Rate of Pay : $27.23 per hour - 29.49 per hour

Hours of work: up to 22.5 hours per week

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a two (2) year diploma in Medical Office administration
  • Minimum two years recent, related experience in a Physician’s office
  • Previous experience working with and supporting multiple Physician's preferred
  • Previous experience with scheduling for multiple physicians preferred
  • Demonstrated proficient dictatyping skills
  • Demonstrated proficient knowledge of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GroupWise, Powerchart, Cerner and Acuity Star) and database management
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in OHIP billing procedures (IBIS preferred)
  • General bookkeeping and accounting skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate professionally (both verbal and written) with all staff, patients, and their families
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize effectively and accurately in a setting of competing demands
  • Demonstrated excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and be empathetic and sensitive to patient needs as per hospital policies
  • Ability to identify and bring forward to the physician, issues/items, and concerns
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Mission, Vision and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a health review which includes providing vaccination records or proof of immunity against Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (Chicken Pox). In addition, candidates will need to provide documentation of Tuberculosis Skin testing and a completed COVID vaccine series (two vaccines).
