Nursing Practice Excellence and Innovation (NPEI) provides evidence-informed direction to lead and implement strategic nursing priorities across the organization, achieve nursing practice excellence, strengthen systematic organization-wide competency-based nursing education and skill-building, understand and address organization-wide nursing issues, and support the advancement of innovation in nursing practice at LHSC.

What the Role is
Reporting to the Manager, Nursing Practice Excellence and Innovation, the Coordinator, Nursing Practice Excellence and Innovation, will foster effective working relationships and internal networks to strengthen nursing and promote effective interprofessional practice. They will identify strategies to support the recruitment and retention of nurses. In supporting nursing excellence and innovation, the Coordinator is expected to collaborate and partner with various teams and committees focused on patient safety and quality of care, occupational health and safety, health ethics, workplace health, information technology, and health equity and inclusion, as well as with regional partners.
The primary focus of the role will be to provide front line leadership and support for the clinical extern program, nursing focus. The leader will work collaboratively with stakeholders and partners to lead recruitment, onboard, support clinical extern growth and development, monitor and evaluate the program, integrated program enhancements, and support transitions from externs to new novice nurses. Additionally, the leader will provide leadership for transitions, both for novice nurses and experienced nurses shifting career pathways.
The leader will adhere to standards of ethics, performance, competence, and training that must be met by nurses at LHSC. The leader will encourage continuous development of self and others, and strives for accountability and responsibility for insightful practice. The leader will support innovation and quality work environments for novice, mid-career and late-career nurses.
They are responsible for translating decisions of the program leadership into execution, by utilizing relationship management and working with internal and external partners to achieve the necessary outcomes. The Coordinator ensures their team and department operations are aligned with our mission, vision and values, while working together to successfully achieve our strategic objectives.

What You Will Bring with You
- Successful completion of a recognized baccalaureate degree program in a related field
- Related post-graduate degree
- Minimum three (3) years' experience in healthcare field preferred
- Ability to effectively work with diversity, appreciating that different opinions, backgrounds, and characteristics can bring richness to the challenge at hand
- Fluent and computer literate with computer systems such as email and Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
