Portering - VH / UH 

Reporting to the Service Coordinators, Portering & Logistics, the Porter is responsible for the transporting of patients, stats, specimens, documents, linen, supplies and equipment from one area of the hospital to another to facilitate the needs of patients, staff and visitors. The position is physically demanding and requires pushing, lifting, bending and extended periods of walking. Porters interact with patients, staff, and visitors and must have a pleasant and courteous manner and maintain confidentiality at all times. 

Regular Part-Time

Rate of Pay: $23.97 per hour - $25.86 per hour 

Initial Shift: Shifts as required by unit and subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement 

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of Grade 12 education or equivalent acceptable to the Hospital 
  • Recent Portering experience preferred 
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work 
  • Customer focused with a positive service attitude 
  • Excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills 
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with patients, public and staff 
  • Self-directed and ability to demonstrate initiative 
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and changing demands that require attention to detail 
  • High motivation and excellent organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team under minimal supervision 
  • Proven ability to read, write and comprehend documents and instructions 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC 
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC?s Vision, Purpose and Values 
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
