Facilities Planning & Design

 

The Fire Prevention Advisor supports LHSC's fire prevention and safety program in collaboration with the Emergency Management team ensuring compliance with the Ontario Fire Code and other regulations. They provide expertise on fire and life safety systems, oversee service providers, and address performance issues. 

 

Key responsibilities include reviewing inspection reports, investigating fire system deficiencies, and escalating concerns. They ensure fire orders are promptly addressed and act as the primary liaison with external agencies, reporting findings and recommendations to leadership.

 

Additional duties include interpreting technical documents, developing fire safety initiatives, maintaining inspection records, and other tasks as assigned.

 

Regular Full-Time 

 

Rate of Pay:                           $35.25 per hour - $44.06 per hour

 

Hours of Work:                      37.5 hours per week

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a 2 year diploma in Fire and Life Safety Systems Technician, Fire Protection Engineering Technician, or equivalent as accepted by the hospital
  • Certified Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) Technician; NFPA Certified Fire Inspector Level 1 and 2 or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum 2 years recent, related experience; 5 years preferred 
  • Advanced knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code, and CAN/ULC and NFPA legislated standards relevant to fire safety
  • Proficient knowledge of CSA Z8000, Ontario Building Code and the Ontario Electrical Code
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Excel, etc.) and computer literacy (i.e. Archibus)
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's vision, purpose and values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
