Social Work
Reporting to the Manager of Health Disciplines, this position will provide coverage in various departments at both VH and UH, and Children's Hospital.
Illness often creates and intensifies personal, family, and practical stressors which may interfere with the patient's and family's ability to obtain the maximum benefits from medical care. These psychosocial difficulties need to be identified, assessed, and treated by the Social Worker as part of the total care of the patients and their families. Social Workers are actively involved in research, academic pursuit, and sharing of knowledge in the study of psychosocial aspects of illness and health care delivery.
Temporary Full-Time
Rate of Pay: $44.33 per hour - $55.41 per hour
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week
Duration: until November 17, 2025
- Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited university
- Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
- Demonstrated knowledge with the Mental Health Act; Substitute Decision Makers Act and Health Care Consent Act preferred
- Skilled in psychosocial assessment and counseling (including individual, family, group)
- Demonstrated ability to identify and Implement strategies with patient/family by establishing a therapeutic relationship in concert with proven treatment modalities (for example Crisis Intervention, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Critical Incident Stress Management, Solution-focused Therapy, etc.)
- Demonstrated excellent clinical assessment and treatment skills
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
- Demonstrated skill in crisis assessment and intervention
- Demonstrated knowledge of community services and resources and experience with community networking
- Demonstrated strength in interpersonal relations, problem-solving, crisis intervention, group dynamics, community development and other innovative approaches
- Demonstrated ability to function independently and interdependently with a diversity of health care team members
- Demonstrated skill in providing education to health care team and community resources
- Demonstrated ability to measure and evaluate practice change outcomes
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose and Values
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
Immunization Requirements:
- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
