Children's Care - Paediatric Haematology Oncology

The Division of Paediatric Hematology and Oncology is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic team. Committed to fostering a strong culture of learning, the program welcomes both experienced NPs and those transitioning from other specialties who are interested in being mentored within this unique and rewarding clinical area.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a self-directed advanced practice nurse prepared at the graduate or post-graduate level. In this expanded role, the NP practices to full scope with a high level of autonomy, working both independently and within a collaborative care model. The NP demonstrates comprehensive clinical knowledge and expertise in the management of acute and chronic conditions. Working closely with key stakeholders, the NP provides advanced, patient-centered care that optimizes outcomes and enhances safety, effectiveness, and accessibility. Reporting to the Manager of Children?s Hospital at LHSC, the NP will deliver both direct and indirect patient care, support professional education, contribute to ongoing program development, and advance practice through research and scholarly activities.

  • Clinical and Program Leadership: Provide expert, patient-centered care as both an autonomous practitioner and a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary Gender Pathways Service.
  • Full-Scope Practice: Conduct comprehensive assessments, establish diagnoses, order and interpret investigations, prescribe medications, monitor treatment plans, and evaluate outcomes for gender-diverse children in the ambulatory setting.
  • Access and Wait-Time Reduction: Lead initiatives to improve timely access to care for this vulnerable population, including completing initial consultations and ensuring safe, appropriate follow-up.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Partner with team members to deliver coordinated, comprehensive care through both in-person and virtual models.
  • Education and Resource Development: Enhance access to information and education for parents, caregivers, and community partners by developing and implementing targeted educational strategies and resources.
  • Academic and Quality Leadership: Actively contribute to research and Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives, including developing program plans that incorporate gender identity?specific wellness scales, evaluating care delivery to improve access, exploring outreach clinic opportunities, supporting patient and caregiver education, and reporting on program metrics to inform evaluation and advancement.
  • System and Practice Advancement: Collaborate with local and regional partners to develop, implement, and evaluate best practices, standards of care, and clinical protocols that strengthen patient care and system performance.
  • Teaching and Knowledge Translation: Plan and participate in educational opportunities for learners within the Gender Pathways Program and contribute to hospital-wide education sessions that promote current evidence-based practices.
  • Professional Development: Attend relevant conferences and professional meetings to maintain clinical expertise and remain current with emerging evidence and best practices.

All duties and responsibilities of the NP conform to professional practice standards of the London Health Sciences Centre guidelines.

  • Rate of Pay: $59.89 - $82.35 per hour

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing

  • Current registration in the extended class in any of the following specialties: Paediatric Haematology Oncology and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

  • Minimum of 3 recent related experience 

  • Current member of the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario (NPAO) or Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) preferred 

  • Mandatory Current Professional Liability Protection

  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP (C)

  • Valid Drivers License (G class) with the ability to travel within the South-West LHIN

  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in clinical practice, education, program development and research

  • Expertise in functioning in an inter-disciplinary health care environment

  • Recent experience in Paediatric Haematology Oncology preferred

  • Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues and therapeutic relationships with patients and families

  • Expertise in critical thinking, clinical problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution

  • Effective organizational, conceptual and leadership skills

  • Ability to provide project management skills to promote evidence-based strategies and initiatives for Paediatric Haematology Oncology and ability to work in partnership with relevant LHSC staff and physicians 

  • Experience in/or understanding research, program development and evaluation

  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal relations and communication skills, both oral and written

  • Demonstrated excellence as a role model for clinical leadership

  • Demonstrated experience with clinical teaching in an academic environment

  • Advanced presentation skills including the application of adult learning principles, change theory and systems theory in a clinical environment

  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice

  • Self-directed and function independently

  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care

  • Demonstrated skill in insight, self-awareness and self-management consistent with high emotional intelligence

  • Demonstrated ability to express oneself assertively and effectively in a non-judgmental and respectful manner

  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in education and research

  • Ability to function as an independent practitioner and a collaborative team member

  • Eligible for an Adjunct appointment to an academic institution

  • Proven ability to act empathically, while establishing and maintaining productive relationships

  • Ability to be flexible and adapt positively to constantly changing clinical situations and multiple demands

  • Computer proficiency with Internet, Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Automated Clinical Systems and Virtual meeting platforms

  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety

  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's vision, purpose and values

  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
