University Hospital Operating Room

University Hospital Operating Room provides patient care to the following services: Orthopaedics (Total Joints/Sports Medicine), General Surgery, Urology, Plastics, Liver (Living Related as well as Cadaveric) Transplants, Kidney (Living Related, Laparoscopic Living Related and Cadaveric) Transplants, Cardiac (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts, Valve Replacement, and Robotic procedures), ENT, Dental, and Neurosurgery (including Aneurysms). The unit is active in education and research, in all discipline levels, in all programs, with emphasis in Anaesthesia, Cardiac, Multi-organ Transplantation, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine, and Robotic Assisted Surgery.

 

Regular Full-Time

Rate of Pay:               $37.10 per hour - $37.77 per hour

Hours of Work:           Shifts as required by unit and subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement

Qualifications

 
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario 
  • Post Graduate OR course Certificate or equivalent acceptable to the Hospital required
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course:  BLS-HCP(C) for which you can provide proof upon request
  • Successful completion of a Pharmacology course
  • Minimum one year current general nursing experience
  • Recent Operating Room experience in an OR scrub role
  • Ability to practice to full competency required
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to practice effectively in a collaborative interdisciplinary team setting
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to function autonomously and to adapt to changing situations and varying workload
  • Demonstrated commitment to the achievement of goals and objectives in patient care
  • Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and professional development
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve conflict
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems

Immunization Requirements

  • Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to: 
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;  
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);  
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
