Occupational Therapist - Adult Mental Health

The Occupational Therapist in the Adult Mental Health and Addictions inpatient program will report to the Manager, Occupational Therapy and indirectly to the Manager of Inpatient Mental Health. The successful candidate will provide a range of services for the acute mental health client in an adult inpatient setting including assessment, group and individual intervention, discharge planning and case management.

Regular Full -Time

Rate of Pay: $42.55 per hour - $53.18 per hour

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, weekends may be required

Qualifications

 
  • Graduation from an accredited University Program with a Baccalaureate Degree or a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy 
  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Current membership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists and/or the Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists preferred
  • Experience in the application of CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing preferred
  • Clinical experience in the assessment and treatment of adult acute mental health populations
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical interviewing and psychotherapy skills
  • Skilled at crisis intervention and assessment
  • Demonstrated expertise in providing treatment within a group modality
  • Demonstrated expertise in providing individual mental health treatment
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a consultative model
  • Demonstrated competencies in interpersonal relations, communication (verbal and written), problem-solving, initiative, sound judgment, innovative practice and ethical decision-making
  • Demonstrated proficiency in providing evidence-based and relevant OT Intervention specific to the patient’s clinical need
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Splinting and positioning
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical teaching and ability to supervise/train students in occupational therapy
  • Demonstrated proficient level in computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite and corporate productivity tools (i.e. Cerner, Onechart, Infomed)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as an interdisciplinary team member
  • Demonstrated competence in organization skills and effective time management while maintaining flexibility and ability to adapt positively to constantly changing clinical situations
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s vision, purpose and values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
