Temporary Full Time
Salary Range: $25.25 - $31.56 /hour


This temporary full-time position is expected to extend until March 2025, subject to availability of work.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of Dr. Barra in the role of “Research Assistant I”. This position will assist the Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology to perform clinical research studies as well as maintain biobanks. There is a broad range of responsibilities, with a focus on all dimensions of research administration. This includes day-to-day research operations, including: liaising with study participants, physicians and healthcare workers, maintenance of certifications, obtaining informed consent from potential study participants and collecting biological samples, management of documentation, including filing, data entry. The incumbent assures adherence to privacy and reporting of adverse events requirements. The position is full-time for 6 months with the potential for renewal.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health-related field is preferred however equivalent qualification/ work experience will be considered;
  • At least 2 years prior experience with clinical research including informed consent, database management and research ethics board documentation
  • Requires excellent interpersonal, supervisory, organizational and planning skills to work effectively in a high-pressure environment and have the ability to deal with confidential matters;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Ability to communicate effectively general and scientific information both verbally and in writing at all levels;
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions. Good judgement, initiative, tact and professional attitude in the workplace;
  • Adaptable, flexible and resourceful. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in an academic/research environment
  • Experience with venipuncture is a strong asset
  • Experience with biobanking
  • Training in ICH/GCP guidelines.
  • The incumbent will maintain certification in:
  • WHMS training
  • Shipping of Dangerous Goods training
  • Biosafety
Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine or proof of one dose and a signed commitment to receive a second dose within a specified timeframe, (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
