Job Description
Note: This is a part-time casual position (up to 24 hours per week), starting January 1, 2025, and ending April 30, 2025. Evening coverage may be required.
The incumbent will support faculty teams within the laboratory and clinic environments, reinforcing student learning in the Dental Hygiene program. This role is integral to the operations of the Oral Health Clinic at Fanshawe College and involves duties related to dental clinic operations and educational needs to support the success of both students and the clinics.
Responsibilities
- Oversee space and equipment.
- Ensure student safety in the proper use of equipment.
- Provide checklist or rubric grading to professors for evaluation.
- Offer subject matter expertise within the scope of the credential as described in the job description.
- Reinforce learning in the classroom at the level of the credential—supporting curriculum already delivered by a professor.
- Assist students in the classroom by reinforcing learning, including proper equipment use, rubric grading, and curriculum previously delivered by a professor.
- Ensure health and safety in Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), Medical Reprocessing, and dental radiography.
- Apply critical thinking, judgment, and technical expertise to perform complex tasks and solve problems in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Adhere to and implement PHIPA and college-wide privacy policies.
- Report and troubleshoot breaches in IPAC and PHIPA.
- Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene program.
- Member in good standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO).
- H.A.R.P. certified.
- Certified in First Aid/CPR Level HCP, BLS provider CPR, and AED.
- Minimum of three years’ recent, relevant experience.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered, with preference given to applicants meeting the education requirements.
- Demonstrated history of continuing education to enhance clinical practice.
- Ability to prioritize and adapt to change.
- Empathy for students in stressful situations.
- Understanding of dental office procedures and educational activities to support program and clinic success.
- Knowledge of dental instrumentation.
- Accountability for the operation of dental equipment.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, particularly when handling sensitive information.
- Proven record of excellent work performance.
- Proficient in computer use (Microsoft Office Suite and Internet).
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
- Commitment to and knowledge of client- and family-centered care principles
