Salary Range: $53.51 - $62.96 /hour
The Radiation Safety Consultant provides leadership and oversight for the integrated research safety program in collaboration with the hospital's occupational health and safety department. The role supervises research safety staff and provides technical guidance and regulatory interpretation to research and clinical teams to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and safety standards.
With a strong preventative focus, the role assesses emerging and complex risks within the research environment and oversees investigation, reporting and corrective actions related to safety incidents.
In addition to research safety responsibilities, the position functions as the designated Radiation Safety Consultant (RSC), accountable for maintaining CNSC licenses and ensuring compliance with the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, HARP Act and associated regulatory requirements. The role supports both research and clinical radiation safety activities, including regulatory reporting, inspection coordination and continuity of licensed operations
This role contributes to the mitigation of St. Joseph's financial, reputational, and other risks related to radiation within the broader community.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering
- Knowledge of a safety Culture in a health Care setting in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
- Advanced knowledge of radiation safety principles and relevant legislation including the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, HARP Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated regulations
- Demonstrated experience interpreting complex regulatory requirements and developing safety related policies and procedures.
- Advanced leadership and interpersonal skills, including leading audits, supervising safety staff and working collaboratively to address compliance matters
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of regulatory reports, policy documentation and engagement with regulatory bodies during inspections
- Demonstrated ability to respond to regulatory inquiries and support internal and external inspections
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage audit records, track corrective actions, balance competing priorities and meet legislated reporting timelines
- Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess complex safety risks and determine appropriate controls
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including various databases
- Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment in managing complex and time sensitive safety matters.
- Master's degree in Science or Engineering
- TDG Class 7 Certification
- RBSO Certification
- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
